FACULTY MENTORSHIP

With guidance from the Dean of Buffalo State’s School of Education, Theobald has orchestrated a kind of non-tenured faculty "support" group intended to clarify matters related to promotion and tenure on the Buffalo State campus.  The group is also a forum for discussions concerned with teaching, service and scholarship—how to prioritize one’s time with respect to meeting professorial expectations in these realms, strategies for teaching effectively, analyzing when it is in one’s best interest to say no to service requests, etc.

Theobald has also worked closely with Bill Wieczorek, John Siskar, and Warren Gleckel to orchestrate a mentorship program that culminates in a four day, off campus, writing retreat set up to give faculty uninterrupted time for writing.  During the pilot year of the program three individuals served as mentors to four faculty.  In May of 2006, mentors and faculty met in Ellicotville, a beautiful, serene setting, for four days of writing.
