Buffalo State recognizes students who demonstrate a strong record of leadership, academic excellence, and service to the college community.

Undergraduate and Graduate President's Medal for Outstanding Student and Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

Due Date: 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2013, Student Affairs Office, Cleveland Hall, room 519 (no extensions granted).

President's Medal for Outstanding Undergraduate and Graduate Student

One undergraduate student and one graduate student will be awarded the President's Medal. The President's Medal is the highest honor awarded to a student by Buffalo State. This award is given to a student who, through use of his or her natural talents and acquired skills, has demonstrated a commitment toward meeting the goals of higher education as set forth in the college's mission statement. The recipients will deliver the student address at Commencement. A grade point average of at least 3.5 is required for consideration for this award. Only students graduating December 2013, May 2014, or August 2014 will be considered.*

SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence

The Chancellor's Award is the highest honor bestowed by SUNY upon a student. This award recognizes model students who have integrated academic excellence with achievement in areas such as athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, entrepreneurship, leadership, and career achievement. Although there is no prescribed grade point average for this award, it is assumed that recipients will have high academic achievement. Award recipients will be recognized at a spring ceremony in Albany and at Commencement. Only students graduating between June 2013 and May 2014 will be considered.

*Information will be verified with the Registrar.

Message to Faculty and Staff Nominators

There is no longer a need for a member of the faculty or staff to sign a nomination form and submit a nomination letter. Instead, nominators will only be required to submit, directly to the student nominee, a letter stating that they are nominating the student for the President’s Medal, the Chancellor’s Award, or both. Nominees are responsible for submitting this nomination letter, along with at least two (2) additional letters of recommendation within their completed portfolio no later than 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2013.

If you are nominating or recommending a student for both awards, there is no need to write two separate letters. Just indicate your intention to nominate or recommend the student for BOTH the President's Medal for Outstanding Students and the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.

Nomination and recommendation letters may be addressed as follows:
Undergraduate and Graduate President's Medal and Chancellor's Award Committee
