The Residence Hall Association (RHA) of Buffalo State College represents the voice of our residential students. The Residence Hall Association will provide a positive, united front in representing the needs of our diverse community. RHA Elections Process
• March 3rd-Applications available and Executive Board shadowing can begin
• March 17th- Applications are due
• April 14th RHA Executive Board Elections
*To be considered for an Executive Board position students must submit a
completed application by the deadline, have a cumulative g.p.a of 2.5 or better,
students must be in good Judicial standing and students must be committed to
serving in their position for the entire academic year.
They must demonstrate a commitment to the Residence Hall Association’s mission,
as well as the overall mission of Buffalo State.
Students must be available to participate in mandatory Executive Board
training May 21-May 28 and must be able to attend the
NACURH Conference May 30-June 2, 2014.
Students must also be able to return to campus at least one full week prior
to the start of the fall semester to facilitate welcoming programming for
first year and transfer students as well as to assist with the opening of
the residence halls.
Hall Council Position Descriptions
Elections are a two week process for Hall Councils and they are typically held in the first few weeks of the semester. Each Hall Council will elect for the following positions who will serve as representatives their respective Hall.
President: conducts Hall Councils meetings, finalizes meeting agenda’s, and is the contact person for RHA and must attend General Board meetings. Presidents must also attend weekly meetings with the Executive Board President.
Vice President: in charge of all aspects of programming and assisting the President, if needed. Must attend weekly meetings with the Executive Board Vice President.
Treasurer: keeps track of the financial records and allocated budget. Must attend weekly meetings with the Executive Board Treasurer.
Secretary: records and organizes Hall Council documentation, prepares information needed for the Hall Council meetings, and takes minutes during the scheduled meetings. They must prepare agendas and minutes from their meetings to be turned in at the weekly Secretary meetings and prepare program attendance sheets to be handed in at General Board meetings the following Monday.
Hall Representative: The Hall Representative is the key communicator between RHA, Hall Council, and Residential Director. They announce any relevant information given to them at General Board meetings during the Hall Council meetings, and vice versa. Another important duty of the Hall representative is to assure that the hall’s mascot is well represented and to use it to maximum capability as to insure unity of the hall.
Floor Representatives and General Members: (not required, but strongly encouraged), students who represent their floor and help during surveys and getting student opinion/issues on the floor. General Members are any other students actively involved with the Hall Council, but doesn’t serve on the Hall Council. The current RHA Executive Board members are:
