Patrols
University police officers patrol the campus around the clock.
Bicycle, foot, and vehicle patrols enable officers to monitor and maintain
security on campus, and promote contact between the campus community and
university police officers.
The bike patrol enables university police officers to patrol
walkways, quads, and other student gathering areas with ease and speed. In
2002, bike patrol officers patrolled 4,780 miles and responded to 704 calls.
This specialized unit demonstrates the department's commitment to community
policing by making officers visible and accessible.
Bike patrol unit officers are trained and certified by the
International Police Mountain Bike
Association and the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services.
Residence Halls
All residence halls are locked 24 hours a day and equipped with
an alarm system. Residents are issued keys for outside entrances and rooms.
Residents must escort residence hall visitors. (Phones are available for
visitors to call residents.) Security cameras monitor residence hall
entrances.
In addition, University Police
student assistants are stationed in designated residence halls to check
identification and report unusual activity to University Police during low-traffic hours.
Campus Construction
Construction projects are currently taking place across campus. University Police ensures that construction-related traffic notices are observed. Visit the construction page for an updated list of projects and a Parking Impact Map.
Off-Campus Student Locations
University Police work with other area law enforcement agencies on mutual concerns and investigations. The College Community Relations Advisory Council reviews issues with community representatives.
