RV John J. Freidhoff commissioned at the Field Station
The college’s new custom-built research vessel was christened the RV John J. Freidhoff on May 11, 2009 in memory of Captain John J. Freidhoff, who died in a tragic diving accident in 2007. Captain John served as the college’s field station manager and boat captain since 1994. He was also a lieutenant commander with the United States Coast Guard Reserve, which was leading the naming ceremony. The event was attended by over 100 people and was widely covered by local media.

Graduate student wins Best Poster Award at 2008 GLRC Annual Conference
Shannon Rupprecht, a graduate student working in the lab of Dr. Chris Pennuto, was honored with the Best Poster Award at the 2008 Great Lakes Research Consortium annual conference held in Syracuse, NY. Ms. Rupprecht won the award (actually a tie, but why split accolades) for her poster titled: “Assessing barriers to round goby invasions of Great Lakes tributary streams”. The project has been made possible by a grant from the New York State Sea Grant to Dr. Pennuto and on which Shannon is a Sea Grant Scholar.
