Funding Update

We continue to work toward raising $1 million to match the Mellon’s contribution. Thanks to alumni and friends who have donated so generously. Your ongoing support is greatly appreciated. Even small contributions add up! A sincere thank you to alumni, friends, and family who have contributed to the department.

This fall, ran a successful alumni appeal spear headed by Jill Whitten ('92) to help us in meeting our match. As of February 2008, this appeal raised over $13,000! Many thanks to Jill for her extraordinary efforts to help rally the alumni base.

For more information on the alumni appeal, please click here (38KB word doc) to see a copy of Jill's letter and download the form for alumni giving (195KB PDF).

Current Funding Initiatives

Conservation Science Fund
Help us fulfill a $1 million challenge from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, who has generously given us $1.5 million toward an endowment in conservation science, with an additional $150,000 for equipment purchases. This restricted endowment will allow us to continue Dr. Greg Smith’s position as well as providing much needed research and travel funds for both of the department’s conservation scientists. Every contribution, large or small, helps!

F. Christopher Tahk Fellowship
As Director of the department from 1983 to 2004, and as professor of conservation science beginning in 1974, Distinguished Service Professor Dr. F. Christopher Tahk has made extraordinary contributions to the department and to the field of art conservation. In his honor, the Tahk Fellowship provides funding to students who undertake work on one of Chris’ favorite topics: the conservation and technical study of clocks, scientific equipment, or mechanical devices. Special consideration is given to students working with cultural institutions in Western NY.

Contributions Program Fund
This fund provides support for student and alumni association activities.

Student Fellowship Fund
Contributions to this fund support student fellowships.

Hlopoff Memorial Fund Fellowship
This student fellowship fund honors the memory of Rostlslav Hlopoff (1903-1989), Objects Professor from 1972-1979, to support student fellowships for objects majors.
