Banner Email Class and Email Advisee Workarounds

The Email Class and Email Advisee features in Banner do not function as expected if you have more than 60 students/advisees OR if you are attempting to use these features while off campus. While the workarounds below detail how to e-mail your advisees using either Internet Explorer or Google Chrome, these steps also apply to e-mailing your class.

Please Note Our Exchange mail server has a default recipient limit is 150. If you have more than 150 students or advisees, you may receive a bounce back message informing you that you've exceeding your limit. If this is the case, you'll need to divide your advisee list in half, and send two separate messages.

Internet Explorer Workaround

If you are using Internet Explorer, follow these steps to e-mail all of your advisees:

1. Login to Banner and bring up your advisee list (Faculty and Staff > Advisee Listing > Select a term from the drop-down menu > Submit).
2. Scroll down to the bottom of your advisee list, right-click on the envelop icon next to Email your advisees and select View Source.

3. A window will open displaying HTML source code. Scroll down almost to the bottom of the window until you locate the list of e-mail addresses.
4. Using your mouse, left-click and drag the cursor over all of the e-mail addresses to highlight them. Be careful to highlight just the addresses and not the HTML source code preceding the addresses.

5. Right-click the highlighted text and select Copy from the menu.
6. Open a new message in Outlook, right-click inside the Bcc field and select Paste from the menu. You should now see a list of e-mail addresses.
7. Press the Home key while holding the Control key on your keyboard. This will jump to the beginning of the pasted text. Delete any HTML code that precedes the first e-mail address (e.g. mailto:?Bcc).

Now that you've copied and pasted the addresses into Outlook, you can continue with creating your e-mail message.

Google Chrome Workaround

If you are using Google Chrome, follow these steps to e-mail all of your advisees:

1. Login to Banner and bring up your advisee list (Faculty and Staff > Advisee Listing > Select a term from the drop-down menu > Submit).
2. Scroll down to the bottom of your advisee list, right-click on the envelop icon next to Email your advisees and select Open link in new window.

3. Click inside the address bar at the top of the Chrome window. The e-mail addresses appearing in the address bar should now be highlighted.
4. Right-click the highlighted text and select Copy from the menu.

5. Open a new message in Outlook, right-click inside the Bcc field and select Paste from the menu. You should now see a list of e-mail addresses.
